Much to their relief, Ealdræd and Eiji have escaped the politically deviant horrors of the Gathkar Queendoms by sailing to the comparative sanity of the buccaneer port of Citadelle in the Barony of Langelais, one of the great privateer strongholds ruled by the famous “sea-barons”. Here they must try to secure passage westward for the Ehngle peninsula and if they succeed in doing so they will have to risk the long and perilous voyage hugging the coast for fear of the danger of being blown out to sea beyond the sight of land into the endless emptiness of the great Western Ocean to be utterly lost forever.
